When a company offers goods or services to consumers in Japan, it is subject to the Consumer Contract Act, the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions, and other relevant laws, regulations and guidelines. In e-commerce transactions, it is common to use standardized terms of use for contracts with a large number of consumers. These standardized contracts are subject to special regulations that differ from ordinary contracts. There is a possibility that provisions or changes to provisions that violate these regulations may be invalid, and may also be subject to criminal penalties.

Mori Hamada has extensive experience advising on consumer contracts, e-commerce transactions and terms of use. Our lawyers, well-versed in the practical aspects of this area, support B-to-C businesses with their professional knowledge and experience.
