Both the public and private sectors are undertaking a number of initiatives to achieve decarbonization and green transformation (GX) with the aim of addressing climate change issues.

Decarbonization efforts encompass a broad spectrum, including energy transition through the expansion of renewable energy and the use of nuclear power, hydrogen and other decarbonized fuels. The Japanese government actively promotes GX to simultaneously achieve decarbonization, ensure a stable energy supply, and foster economic growth. Its initiatives include examining the full-scale introduction of an emissions trading system, issuing GX economic transition bonds, supporting the development and social implementation of innovative technologies through the Green Innovation Fund, developing investment promotion measures in relevant fields, establishing the GX Acceleration Agency to provide financial support for GX initiatives, promoting the use of new financial methods (such as transition finance), clarifying approaches to the Antimonopoly Act in relation to corporate decarbonization efforts, and engaging in international cooperation through initiatives like the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC).
